Recent leaks suggest that Epic Games, the company who make Fortnite, are developing an Extraction mode for the popular Battle Royale title, in a similar style to Escape from Tarkov or Call of Duty's DMZ.
This information comes from Fortnite leaker's and data miner's @Loolo_WRLD and @itsUnreleased on X (formerly Twitter).
This isn't the first time we've heard talk of an extraction mode being developed at Fortnite, but the previously leaked mode was believed to be cancelled. This new information suggests that it wasn't and is very much still going ahead.
Fortnite Developing Escape From Tarkov Style Extraction Mode
Fans of Escape from Tarkov generally won't show much interest in a Fortnite Extraction mode, as it will certainly be far more casual than the cult classic shooter that is as hardcore as extraction modes come.
Extraction shooters are growing in popularity as players look for alternatives to the repetitive Battle Royale genre that seems to be winding down after 10 years at the top of the gaming industry. That being said, we've seen plenty of the big dogs in the industry have a crack and "fail" over the past year or so.
The Division had an extraction mode in the pipeline but that was cancelled earlier this year. Call of Duty attempted to enter the market with DMZ but support for that was abandoned. Several others extraction modes have popped up and then been taken offline within a few months.
There is no official news or release dates for this mode so when it might launch is anyone's guess at this stage. Fortnite seems to be making huge moves in the gaming space with a Valorant/CS:GO competitor, an open world Sims style game, and improvements to LEGO Fortnite, adding an extraction mode was an obvious choice.
We are certain with the sheer power and popularity of Fortnite that if anyone can succeed in the Extraction market, it will be them.
