Marvel Rivals is set to launch on December 6, 2024 on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
It being a free-to-play title you probably won't be surprised to hear that the game will contain microtransactions and season passes as a form of revenue for the studio, NetEase, behind the Overwatch-like game. But they are handling the season pass very differently to other F2P games on the market.

Marvel Rivals will introduce a player-friendly monetization model with a 'no fear of missing out' (FOMO) factor on battle pass rewards, which can be earned over multiple seasons. The game offers free heroes and maps, reasonably priced cosmetic bundles, and an in-game currency system where players can earn premium currency through gameplay.
This is a refreshing take on the season pass as often they are very demanding and require dozens of hours of in-game time over the course of a short period, we're looking at you Call of Duty. The fact that players can purchase a season pass and complete it at their own leisure could, and honestly should, become an industry standard.
If people are parting with their hard-earned money they should be able to complete and unlock every piece of content available in the pass without needing to worry about the count down timer on the season.
How successful this model might be, time will tell. It will be interesting to see if other giants in the gaming space take notice of this innovative take on the pass. With so many games opting for the seasonal content approach these days, players just can't possibly keep up and buy them for every game. This method would give players far more flexibility.
