World of Warcraft Expansion Timeline Since Launch

World of Warcraft first launched in 2024. Since then it has had many updates and expansion packs. Lets take a look at the timeline of every expansion so far.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSIONS TIMELINE SINCE LAUNCH
 

World of Warcraft has been online for over 20 years and remains one of the most popular MMORPG's that players can sink their time into. Over the course of the last two decades, it has received endless updates, improvements, and expansion packs that expand the ever growing Warcraft universe.


World of Warcraft (2004)

World of Warcraft (2004)

World of Warcraft officially released globally in 2004 and early 2005 in other regions.


The Burning Crusade (2007)

The Burning Crusade (2007)

Released in 2007. This expansion introduced Outland, the Blood Elves for the Horde, and the Draenei for the Alliance, with the level cap raised to 70.


Wrath of the Lich King (2008)

Wrath of the Lich King (2008)

Wrath of the Lich King - Released in 2008. It focused on the icy continent of Northrend and introduced the Death Knight hero class. The level cap was increased to 80.


Cataclysm (2010)

Cataclysm (2010)

Released in 2010. This expansion reshaped much of Azeroth, introduced the Goblins for the Horde and Worgen for the Alliance, and raised the level cap to 85.


Mists of Pandaria (2012)

Mists of Pandaria (2012)

Released in 2012. It introduced the Pandaren race (neutral, available to both factions), the Monk class, and the continent of Pandaria, with the level cap raised to 90.


Warlords of Draenor (2014)

Warlords of Draenor (2014)

Released in 2014. Players could explore an alternate timeline of Draenor, no new races or classes were introduced, but the level cap was raised to 100.


Legion (2016)

Legion (2016)

Released in 2016. This expansion took players to the Broken Isles, introduced the Demon Hunter class, and artifacts were a significant gameplay feature. The level cap increased to 110.


Battle for Azeroth (2018)

Battle for Azeroth (2018)

Released in 2018. It featured the continents of Kul Tiras and Zandalar, introduced allied races, and the level cap was raised to 120.


Shadowlands (2020)

Shadowlands (2020)

Released in 2020. Players entered the afterlife of Azeroth, with the level cap being 'squished' back to 60.


Dragonflight (2022)

Dragonflight (2022)

 Released in 2022. This expansion introduced the Dragon Isles, the Dracthyr Evoker class, and focused on dragonriding as a new gameplay mechanic.


The War Within (2024)

The War Within (2024)

Released in 2024. This is the most recent expansion, introducing new subterranean zones and part of the Worldsoul Saga.
